- Mission Bay Development update before the Environment Court hearings
- Retaining the bowling club land as a community asset
7:00 pm
Tuesday 18 May
Selwyn College Theatre
Kohimarama Road
Two key projects that we have been working on are approaching a critical phase, and we are holding a public meeting to update the community and to let people know what they can do to support us.

The two projects are:
  • The proposed 8 storey development in Mission Bay on the corner of Patteson and Tamaki Drive
  • Our project to retain the Mission Bay Bowling Club land in community ownership rather than selling it for apartment development

You will recall that the Mission Bay development was turned down by the Council, in large part due to our opposition. The developer, however, has appealed the decision to the Environment Court, and the hearings will start on 24 May. The developers have changed the design slightly, retaining or even increasing the maximum height slightly, and removing most of the aspects of the development which would have provided benefits for our community. This includes the movie theatre, all second level restaurant and bar space, and all public space. The new proposal is simply for an apartment block with a few ground floor restaurants.

At the meeting, we will explain the process we have been going through, and summarise the arguments being presented.

The Bowling Club land project is less advanced but also approaching a critical phase. Panuku (the Council's development arm) want to sell the reserve for apartment development. We believe that with Mission Bay set to become more and more intensified, we need to retain all the green space and community facilities we can to ensure that our quality of life does not deteriorate. Our view is that the buildings on the reserve would make an ideal community centre to provide a venue for all kinds of local groups to use, from pilates to meetings to hobby groups. In addition, we believe that the grounds would make a great park for locals, serving a totally different group of people than Selwyn Reserve.

We have struggled to make progress on this, but seem to be getting traction now. We will update you on the latest.

We would love to see you there.  We think it will be a very interesting and informative evening on topics which may well help define how attractive Mission Bay will be going forward.

Mission is close to the city .Mission Bay is a lovely spot but it needs those high rise buildings and the Bowling needs high rise building we have . Mission bay sea side long water front park by the sea and Bastion point.. Bowling club site will be great for the area as we have plenty of parks near by
